You will find a monument to Co. E, 33rd Alabama located on the grounds of the Ebeneezer Baptist Church on Highway 61 south of Ramer in Montgomery County.

Co. E was originally commanded by Captain Henderson Norman, son of Job Norman of Montgomery, and his 1st Lt. was his brother-in-law, Charles R. Waller (my great-great uncle). Lt. Waller received a very serious wound to his shoulder at the Battle of Perryville, KY in October 1862, returning to Ramer on furlough. Capt. Norman died in Georgia, and Lt. Waller returned to be promoted to Captain and command of the company. However, in 1864, due to his wound he was unable to carry out his duties, and discharged for disability. However, he ran for Sheriff of Montgomery in 1864. In 1867, his wife (Henderson Norman's sister) died, and he married Henderson's widow....I guess he wanted to keep it all in the family and the company.

The 33rd saw very perilous and courageous duty throughout the entire war in the Western Theatre, and you'll find that obvious in a regimental history. They served under Gen. Patrick Cleburne, and carried the Hardee pattern battleflag, refusing to adopt the St. Andrews Cross flag.
