Not the 18th Alabama; that came later. This men belonged to the "Springville Volunteers", Capt. Sherrif Brewster, CO. "A", Blount's 5th Alabama Battalion. General Bragg ordered this battalion disbanded after Shiloh and sent most officers home. Many of the men were scattered throughout the 18th, but there were enough to form a new company, Co. "L" (later "K") 18th Alabama. Sherrif Brewster became 2nd Lt. of this command.

You should find most of your ancestor's records filed with Company "A", 58th Alabama Infantry. It's a long story. See Inzer, John Washington. The diary of a Confederate soldier: John Washington Inzer, 1834-1928. Huntsville, Ala.: Strode Publishers, c1977.
