Captains of Company “B” of Butler County:
Jeptha J. Deens. Resigned on May 14, 1862.
Thomas Glasscock Barrett. Transferred to this company on June 26, 1862; formerly Captain of Company “C”. Relieved July 24, 1862, to serve as Ordnance Officer (O.O.) of Jackson’s Brigade.
James S. Moreland. Elected Captain July 24, 1862, to rank June 22, 1862; formerly Captain of Company “K”. Commanded a battalion of sharpshooters during 1864. Captured at Resaca, Georgia, May 14, 1864. Released at Johnson’s Island, Ohio, June 15, 1865.
Organized on September 7, 1861, this company was accepted in Confederate service at Montgomery, Alabama, September 14, 1861. About April 9, 1865, survivors merged with Company “C” to form Company “C”, consolidated 17th Alabama Infantry Regiment.

Thomas A. McCane. Wounded at Shiloh, Tennessee, April [6,] 1862. Promoted Captain July 25, 1862, to rank April 25, 1862. Captured at Franklin, Tennessee, on November 30, 1864. Released at Johnson’s Island, Ohio, May 29, 1865.
Leonidas M. Pentecost. Appointed Captain April 20, 1865; formerly 1st Lieutenant of this company. Surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina, May 1, 1865.
Members organized at Greenville, Alabama, August 31, 1861. Arriving at Montgomery, Alabama, September 7, 1861, this company was accepted in Confederate service two days later. About April 9, 1865, survivors merged with Company “D” to form Company “K”, consolidated 17th Alabama Infantry Regiment.
