According to "Those Gallant Men of the 28th Alabama Confederate Infantry Regiment" Written By James H. Walker and Robert Curren

William McNeal Enlisted in Walker County, Alabama April 1 1862.

He was sent to Rock island, Illinois December 9, 1863.

And took oath of allegiance to U.S. April 21, 1864 at age of 22.
