This is curious. A former member of Company "C", John G. Pierce, was appointed Captain & Assistant Quartermaster of the 11th Alabama and later served as brigade quartermaster of Wilcox's Brigade. Here are my notes from the brigade staff records:

John G. Pierce. Appointed Major and Quartermaster (Q.M.) July 10, 1862, to rank April 23, 1862; formerly Captain and Assistant Quartermaster (A.Q.M.) of the 11th Alabama Infantry Regiment. Assigned to duty as acting brigade commissary April 5, 1862. Paroled at Meridian, Mississippi, May 13, 1865.

I'll have to check the regimental files for the other name you cited. Usually a quartermaster was a commissioned officer, although each regiment also had a quartermaster sergeant. This does sound like a very interesting document.
