Confederate Reunion- Dallas
Sat Jul 7 12:37:22 2001

Kevin,
I agree that there should be some more infomation on the
Confederate Reuinons (Texas). I know of only one that my
ancestors attended in Dallas in 1925. My father was then
13 years of age and a Boy Scout at that time. He and his
troop were asked to act as guides and attendants for the
Civil War veterans that attended a similar Reunion in
1925. My dad, now 87 years, showed to me a medallion,
commemorting the event, that was given to the Scouts that participated. His grandfather, Henry Clay Cooke, and Henry's brother, Benjamin F. Cooke, both formerly with CSA Alabama Regiments, attended the Dallas Reunion as Confederate Veterans. Henry C. Cooke had been a colorbearer
(Sgt.) with 11th Ala.Inf, Co."C" and Co. "K", was quite elderly at that time, and lived with his daughter, my grandmother, in Dallas during the 1920's. Mr.Cooke passed
away in their Dallas home in June, 1928. My dad has some great memories and stories of his Grandpa Cooke from those days in Dallas.

I too would like to learn more about these reunion events
in Texas, and in Alabama. I was not aware of the one 1902
reunion event in Dallas, until reading your message. I am sure that there would be a good deal of info in the Dallas newspapers of the day. I would think that there would be additional info from many of the Southern organizations and Civil War groups on those events, as well.

Please let me know if you run across such info on any of
the reunions. I will do what I can from Austin to try and
gather like information on Confederate Reunions.
Sincerely,
Jack Brundrett (Austin, TX)
