yes... I acknowledge those events.....but even Grant and Sherman say that they were mistakes and thought that the forces they were attacking were not fully entrenched...or that they had such superior numbers that it didnt matter....

I think any would be hard pressed to find any commander who thought that massed infantry assault would be succesfull (other than Hood) after 1863...even the troops knew that such attacks would not work.

Commanders and troops of 1863 knew that charging prepared works was suicide.
