why do people study War

You'll get a different answer from everyone who reads this question.

The War was, without a doubt, the most exciting event in American history. People involved then knew it and people still know it today. Pinpointing your own personal involvement through your ancestors is like connecting yourself to that event and identifying your American connection.

When my ancestors went off to fight, all they wanted was for thier service to be remembered. Visiting a dead ancestor's grave, especially someone who died young, is like exploring a potential unrealized. Their deaths have no meaning unless we give them meaning.

It seems like the least we can do is to study and try to understand the motives that brought on this particular tragedy. In the South, especially, those long dead voices still call out for us to remember.
