Have an ancestor that was with the AL 28th and captured at Chattanooga 11/23/1863. The Muster roll dtd 11/24/1863 states that he was sent to Louisville Ky 11/30/1863 for exchange.
There is a muster roll slip "List dated near Dalton, Ga 4/4/1864" with his name but nothing under the remarks.
Copy os his parole papers show him paroled at Natchez 5/28/1865.(Just received)
Family legend has him at Rock Island and shipped by boat to Natchez for parole.
Would the entry at Dalton likely be just a slip showing him as a member of the 28th just for recordkeeping? Or poor recordkeeping? Could he have been exchanged and re-captured?
Maybe there is no way of knowing for sure?
Thanks,
E. D.
