Why I look at history....

Kyla,
I'm an old guy...a Vietnam vet who has been shot at, spat on, and verbally abused for wearing the uniform of an American serviceman. I'm also a Grandfather of a new baby boy born yesterday...and I want him to understand why his ancestors fought for what they believed was right.
None of his ancestors owned slaves...his ancestors were poor farmers, barely able to feed their own families; but they had an overwhelming desire for freedom from a government that imposed unfair economic regulations on them.
The Declaration of Independence states, "..But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guard for their security..."
I would ask that you read the Constitution of the United States and ignore all the Amendments that were passed after the War Between the States. It will give you a good sense of why my ancestors fought for the South and why I study our history. If you have further questions, please email me....
Regards,
Jim
