Some wise person once said, "Those who forget the past are destined to repeat it."
While there is a lot of truth in that statement, I don't think that is why people still study the Civil War.
I can only speak for myself. I study the Civil War because I admire bravery and devotion to duty, and I find a lot of it in the men, boys, and women who lived through that period of our history.
Although I have ancestors who fought for the South during the war, I have a lot of admiration for anyone who endured the trials and suffering of that war.
I also enjoy studying the battles, tactics, and weapons of the Civil War.
