Thank you Messrs. Lanphere and Pitts for your help. I have a couple of other comments and questions:

I can find no information on Stuart's Battalion on this site. Do you have any suggestions as to where I could get more information on it?

Also, William M. McClanahan was John's older brother. They were both older brothers to my great-grandfather, David Stewart McClanahan.
