Actually almost any veteran of Roddey's cavalry could claim to have served under Forrest. Many of them fought with him at Brice's Creek, Tupelo, Athens and Pulaski, as well as Wilson's Raid. Forrest eventually came to look down on these Alabama troopers, reporting that Roddey's men fled at his approach, reacting as if the enemy had been discovered making a raid on their camp.

I find no one by that name in the 5th Alabama Cavalry. Of course his record could appear in any of Roddey's other units. Is it possible that he applied for a pension as a veteran?
