Company D was indeed the McCaa Rangers from Pickens County, Alabama. Several officers and men, however, were from Pleasant Ridge, Greene County, but that's another story. Two individuals whom I have researched were:
Robert N. Archibald, son of James Hall Archibald, a substantial planter of Pleasant Ridge. He was commissioned Lt in 1862 and was second in command when Capt McCaa was KIA on the second day of Murphreesburo, Jan 1, 1863. Lt Archibald was promoted to capt (I don't have the dates with me right now) and was in command of the company when it was surrendered at Tullahoma, TN in June, 1863. He languished at Johnston's Island until February 1864 when he died of typhoid pneiumonia. He is buried on Johnston's Island.

Leonidas A. Horton, a son of John D. Horton (yes, the captor of Maj Fidler, 6th Kentucky Cav), a planter of Pleasant Ridge. According to an obituary, evidently from a Greene County newspaper, he was in the charge when Capt McCaa was KIA. He, too contracted typhoid pneiumonia in camp the next month and died in Feb 1863. He is buried in the Confederate Cemetery at Shelbyville, TN, which is close to Tullahoma.

Does anybody have a muster roll of this company? I am looking for other individuals from Pleasant Ridge who may have served in this company.
