Great listing of the ensigns of Alabama infantry regiments!!! Thanks for posting it.

I will have to either dig in my files for you or ask Howard Madaus for the date of the War Department cancelling the rank of ensign for the CS Army and get back to you. It may be faster to ask him as I am leaving town today for 4 days.

Will let you know what I find out.

I have been printing off the letters for the ensigns of Georgia regiments and they do indeed have a lot of information on the man and sometimes the unit's flag for my upcoming book on Georgia flags. Very helpful information indeed. I will be doing the same for the book on Alabama flags that I am co-writing.
