DeVaughn, John A.
(DeVaughan)
Captured at Vicksburg July 4, 1863 and paroled July 10. Furloughed about July 22, 1863 at Enterprise, Mississippi. Died October 7, 1863 in Coosa County, Alabama. His father,
Elijah M. DeVaughan filed for settlement and received $139.02. Private DeVaughan enlisted at Rockford, Alabama. Fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, 5'-10" tall, 19 years of age. Occupation: farmer. Born in Tallapoosa County.

DeVaughn, James M. (Sgt.)
Enlisted February 28. 1862 at Montgomery by M. M. Copeland. Mustered into service March 1, 1862. Captured July 4, 1863 at the surrender of Vicksburg and paroled July 10. Furloughed about July 22, 1863 at Enterprise, Mississippi.

DeVaughn, John P.
Born in Fayette County, Georgia. Enlisted at Rockford, Alabama. Killed in battle at Vicksburg June 23, 1863.
His widow, Sarah, filed for settlement on November 16, 1863 and was paid $57.67. Dark complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, 5'-6" tall, 19 years of age.

DeVaughn, Michael
Born January 24, 1833. Surrendered at Vicksburg July 4, 1863 and paroled Jly 10. Captured at Resaca, Georgia May 15, 1864 and sent to Alton Military Prison, Alton, Illinois before being transferred to Camp Douglas, Illinois on August 23, 1864. While in prison he was hospitalized with measles from June 26 to July 2, 1864. From July 10 through 14 he suffered with diarrhoea. Again hospialized from August 6 though 22, 1864, he wa plagued with dysenteria. He died of smallpox at Camp Douglas on September 26, 1864.

DeVaughn, Wesley Freeman (Sgt.)
Born October 29. 1842. Enlisted in Randolph County by J. M. Handley and mustered in at Camp Shorter, Loachapoka, Alabama on May 15, 1862. On muster roll for May and June 1864 for duty at Military Prison, Atlanta, Georgia (as he was unfit for field service). Died June 1, 1897 and buried in the New Harmony Cemetery, Clay County, Alabama.
