Mr. Purvis:
We all greatly appreciate your efforts and follow through concerning this vital issue. If we all don't rise to the occasion and let the powers that be know that we are awake, alert, and determined to preserve as many battlefields as possible for posterity, then we deserve to lose them. This Mississippi Board sounds almost too good to be true. However, another problem is the sites of which the State remains unaware. Here in Lawrence Co. AL, the State has no idea that there was a Union fort named Fort Rose. The local site of the skirmish at Spangler's Mill was only documented by yours truly after many months of research, and I sincerely doubt that any State historical official knows of the location. Therefore, we can't just trust blindly to the good intentions of various state agencies, but need to do our own homework.
