Clerical errors in grave registration

I have found that it was not at all uncommon for the graves of Confederate soldiers to be partially mis-identified by those recording the burials. I have found two instances of this in my family alone, one an uncle who served in the 8th LA Infantry who was listed as having served in the 8th VA, and a cousin who served in the 21st MS Infantry, who was listed as having served in the 21st GA Infantry. THese men were buried in Augusta, GA, and Richmond, VA, respectively, and it just goes to show that it happened frequently and everywhere.
