Slavery as an issue
Thu Jun 14 19:05:59 2001

Many of the seceeding states issued statements for thier actions and all of them stated that slavery or the threat to slavery they felt from a Lincoln Administration was the reason for the dissolution of the union. Economics indeed played a strong part - but from the South as well as the North. Southern state leadership was not prepared to see the percieved basis of the economy (slavery) ended. The historical record on this is very clear and available on the web.
