I had two gg grandfathers who were captured and sent to Camp Douglas. George W. Noblin was in the 33rd Alabama Infantry Regiment. He died on February 5, 1863, in Camp Douglas. He was buried in a mass grave there.
My other gg grandfather, Abram Chappell, was in the 17th Alabama Infantry Regiment and was also imprisoned at Camp Douglas. He signed the loyalty oath at the end of the war and became a "galvanized yankee," serving on the frontier. He survived and returned to Lee County, Alabama. He died in 1903.
