Thanks for the info. The letter is written by my gg grandfather. Of the 13 letters I possess, this is the only letter without a complete date. The edge is torn off and only the word March remains. I have always believed it to be written in March of 1865 but have not had proof.

Could you please advise me of the records you referred to which contain reference to the formation of the brigade of sharpshooters?
