Streight route....

I'm interested in the actual route of Streight's Raid and hope someone familiar with the Cullman County area will reply. After a couple of evenings staring at maps and measuring distances from point to point, I'm willing to guess that Streight followed County Road 1101 along the Lawrence County line east to what's known as Battleground today. The map shows Crooked Creek a mile or less east of Battleground. Streight's report says Crooked Creek was a mile west of the position he defended on Hog Mountain. Was Streight confused or was the actual battleground east of Crooked Creek down County Road 1212?

I'm not at all certain about the location of Day's Gap. Let's assume that on the morning of April 30th, Streight broke camp near the Lawrence-Morgan line just south of its intersection with Alabama Hwy 157. The map indicates a broad gap between Sand Mountain and Friendship Mountain which may be Day's Gap. It also appears as if another road leads south from Danville that intersects the road from the gap (if that's right) near the Piney Grove Community. Forrest sent Starnes and Biffle to circle around Streight's column on a road that would have intersected the Day's Gap route. Perhaps this is the Danville Road.

I'm also curious about Streight's route to Blountsville. His report doesn't include helpful physical features, which isn't surprising since much of the journey took place at night. The map lead me to believe his path led through current-day Vinemont to Simcoe, then across Duck River on County Road 1651 past Bailey's Mill to Mulberry Fork. Blountsville is just a short distance southeast from there. If anyone knows something about hte subject, I'd be pleased to get another opinion.
