The Color Bearer for the 35th Alabama Infantry at the battle of Franklin, Tennessee on November 30, 1864 was Robert Wheeler. He was a member of Company "B" made up primarily of cadets from the La Grange Military Academy. Robert "Bob" Wheeler was killed while carrying the colors in the initial charge at Franklin. The foregoing information is from an article in Volume XII, Page 227 of the Confederate Magazine of May, 1904. According to research done by Alan Pitts, Corporal Robert Wheller was appointed 1st Lieutenant and Ensign during 1864.

If memory serves, there was also a member of the 35th Alabama Infantry listed among those who surrendered at Citronell, Alabama at the end of the war, who gave his rank as Ensign. As luck would have it I cannot find my roster notes on the Citronelle Surrender List at the moment. I have also come across at least one other mention of a different color bearer for the 35th Alabama, but alas, I can't seem to locate this man in my notes either at present. I will continue to look for names for these two soldiers and share them with you.
