Hayes Lowe
Burial record.

One way is to order his military record from the National Archives. As he served in a multiple state unit, that would be the best place from which to try to get the record.

If you are lucky, the record may say when and where he died. This will be your best clue as to where he is buried. Additional research will be necessary at that point, as I have never seen a record that actually stated where a soldier was buried. However, many cemetery listings are online. And, if he died in a battle, it is often known where the burials from a particular battle where done.

Keep in mind, also, that many soldiers who were killed in action were left on the battlefield by necessity, and never received a proper burial. And, many times, the killed in action were buried in mass graves.
