My great great grand uncle John Henry Hurst is listed as having served as company commander of Co. L., McCann's State Guards. I have been unable to find any listing for this unit and do not know whether it was a regular unit or a militia unit. Someone told me they were in the 35th Alabama, but I have no verification.

Captain Hurst was alleged to have turned his pistol on himself in 1864, possibly after being exchanged.

Any information on this unit would be gratefully received.
