It would be nice to know how much the people who found this item knew about the area. Since neither the Federals nor the Confederates at Greensport/Ten Islands brought artillery with them, I'd have to believe Canoe Creek was the one near Atmore in Escambia County. Various Confederate units were in the area throughout the war (Canoe Station), and certainly shot and shell was shipped on the rail line between Montgomery and Mobile.

Canoe Creek flows over the Florida line to the Escambia River near Bluff Springs. Clanton's command was defeated at Bluff Springs on March 25, 1865, but again, no artillery was used by either side.
