AWOL

A lot of soldiers are listed as AWOL on their unit's last muster roll (which sometimes was many months before the end of the war), and had been separated from their unit, were wounded, etc. Sometimes they hooked up with another unit, because they couldn't get back to their original unit, and sometimes it just can't be determined through records what happened to them. The Camp the applicant wants to join has the authority to make the decision as to accepting the applicant, even if the last muster roll shows they were AWOL at that time. If you are turned down on first try, you probably have other family members you can join on.
