Yes, you are missing the point. Regardless of the accuracy of Mr. Purvis' facts, you have missed the point that blacks faithfully served the Confederacy as soldiers, servants, and slaves. And, that they are to be honored, just as those blacks who served the Union (as soldiers, servants, and yes...slaves) are to be honored and not forgotten.

If you believe that the Union Army did not use slaves, *as slaves*, you are unfamiliar with the Union military regulations. These regulations were reiterated in Northern newspapers during 1863 [particularly in Kentucky], making it clear that the Union Army was to use slaves, and to pay them nothing, and that they were to remain slaves (when in states, territories, and districts which were not in rebellion, but were legally slave holding...for example, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, Missouri, Washington, D.C., etc.).
