I am looking for information on how to find rosters for the coastal batteries that served at Mobile Bay. I am trying to find info on an ancestor so that I may join the S.C.V.. My great grandfather helped to found a church in Dothan. My grandpa would take me there every summer to clean the coping around the family gravesite and I was fascinated by the family history around me. My great grandfathers (maternal) name was Archie Cherry. There was a plain white headstone that I remember well. My grandpa told me that it was Archie's uncle and that he fought in the war. I can't recall the first name, but the last name was Cherry and below the name was engraved "10th Coastal Art CS". Family legend holds that he was very young and survived the war, living to old age. It will be a while before I can make the trip to Dothan. I was hoping that someone had information on the coastal artillery units that I could use to dig further into this history until I can make the trip to explore this further. Maybe I'm getting older, but this has been eating at me and I want to find some answers so that I can pass on this part of my family history to my children before it is lost. Thank you for any help you can give.
