Kinda familiar with that general area too, grew up in Gadsden.
You are right, there are a lot of of those towns that are there just to keep from having a hole in the ground, and have just a few folks even today.
Just thought of my Al 1847 map that I have framed in the den-will take a look at it for Providence.
