Hi Lloyd --

Here's the story on this company from the 1st Cav. Reg't.:

Company “C” of Morgan County “Morgan Cavalry”

Capt. James W. Harper. Resigned June 9, 1862, due to ill health.
Capt. Josiah Patterson. Promoted Captain [July 23,] 1862, to rank June 9, 1862. Appointed Colonel of the 5th Alabama Cavalry Regiment, February 5, 1863, to rank November 23, 1862.

This company mustered with four officers and about seventy-six enlisted men at Camp Stone near Montgomery, Alabama, November 20, 1861. The number of enlisted men on roll had increased to eighty-four by January 11, 1862. Members became Company “D” of the 5th Alabama Cavalry when that regiment organized. The Adjutant and Inspector General did not recognize this company’s transfer until July 4, 1864.

Seems as if this company remained in the northeast Mississippi area when Bragg's army moved south/east/north during the summer of 1862.
