Roddey's original Co. "C" was from Tishimingo County MS and commanded by Capt. M. D. Moreland. This company left the regiment on Aug. 1, 1863, and divided to form Companies "D" and "G" of Moreland's Cavalry Battalion.

Three companies in Roddey's 4th Alabama Cavalry eventually found their way into Burtwell's 11th Alabama Cavalry. These were 1st Co. "D", Capts. Julian and Steele; 2nd Co. "D", Capt. Doan; Co. "I", Capts. Williams and Hyatt.

Based on the capture dates and places, the Joslyn men must have been captured while at home. Sherman led three army corps into that area and it must've swarmed with Federal troops during that time. Roddey returned to Tuscumbia on Oct. 27th, but wouldn't have sent men west of Bear Creek.
