I don't understand your use of the name "Birmingham". At the time of the war, a town by that name existed in Mississippi, and a city by that name exited in England, but there was no such place in Alabama.

You seem to be asking about James Fleming Waddell. A biographical sketch of this gentleman appears in Owen's "Dictionary of Alabama Biography", vol 4, page 1711. Waddell was captain of elected Captain of the “Opelika True Volunteers” from Russell County, which became 1st Company “H”, 6th Alabama Infantry Regiment. Waddell determined to leave this company and recruit an artillery unit, which he did on February 1, 1862. This was known as Waddell’s Alabama Battery and served in Mississippi during the Vicksburg Campaign.
