Thanks so much for the information you guys provided. In working on my ancestor's regiment (23rd IA Infantry), thre are 6 men who deserted one regiment and later joined the 23rd IA. While stationed in AR near Duvall's Bluff (if I have the location right) they were posted with their "old regiment"! They were then turned back to their old command. Apparently these men joined, deserted, then joined again to get extra bounty! Or so goes the story. A lot more than fighting went on!
