Most of the information came from reading National Archives microfilm. The Birmingham Public LIbrary has all the Alabama records, records of organizations raised by directly by the Confederate government and records of General and staff officers. Other relevant titles are aaavailable as well. I've cross-referenced this information with the census for many members of the 5th Alabama Cavalry.

I left some of my records at the office, but checking what I have at home, don't see either A. J. or Levi Brown on record with the 5th Cavalry. What kind of information do you have on your ancestors. Do you know what comany they joined and who their officers were?
