I have two ancestors whose records reflect they were prisoners and would like to learn more - I plead ignorance so any help appreciated. What were the conditions as POW'S ? What was the Parolee process? Any specifics about the following individuals also a Plus.Thomas S. Guthrie- Co. G Reg 31 AL. Pension Applic. said he was shot May 1862 Bakers Creek, MS. NARA had him wounded and missing May 1863 at Champion Hill, MS to June 1863-shows on parolee list June 1863. Then later May 20 1865 paroled in Talledga (maybe he was captured twice?)John H. Guthrie- 10 Conf. Reg Co. C Captured Dec 1863 Louden TN. Paroled Ft. Delaware Jun 1865. Was he a POW all this time? Went in as Private, left as 2nd Lieutenant.
