Mr. Jones suggested that I get a look-up from "Broadfoot's Biographical Rosters of Florida's Confederate and Union Soldiers, 1861-1865". Well, I did that. Here is what I found on Joseph and T.B.Bennett. Thanks very much to the Reference Department of the Bay County Public Library of Panama City, FL.
"Vol IV, on pg. 1702 lists the members of the 15th Confederate Cavalry, Co. "E"(Simpson Mounted Rangers). Joseph Bennett and T.B.Bennett are both listed as "see Co. "C" 3rd Battalion Florida Cavalry. Page 1583 of the above lists under 3rd Battalion FL. Cav. Co."C"(Simpson Mounted Rangers),Joseph Bennett enlisted 9/5/62 in Camp Tatnall and was present on the last roll. He was captured 11/17/64 in Escambia Co. and sent to Ship Island prison. He was transferred to Vicksburg 5/1/65. Also, T.B.Bennett, enlisted 9/5/62 in Camp Tatnall. He was present on the last roll. He surrendered at Citronelle AL 5/4/65 and was paroled 5/1/65 at Gainesville AL. Residence, Bruton Co. AL"
Now, Mr. Jones tells me that the 15th Conf.FL Cav. had many Alabama boys in a couple of the units. What are the chances that these two Bennetts who are apparently brothers and enlisted on the same day, would be two of my Bennett brothers from Butler Co. There is no Bruton Co. Alabama. There is the town of Brewton though. Dare I believe that these would be my two lost Bennett brothers???
