"Crown of Thorns"
Tue May 8 11:07:15 2001
In a related story re the possible eviction of the Confederate Museum, the New Orleans Times-Picayune of today described some of the contents of the museum. One item particularly intrigued me and I quote from the article:
"In a rear case is a crown of thorns sent to Jefferson Davis by Pope Pius IX during the former Confederate president's
postwar incarceration at Fort Monroe in Virginia".
My question for you scholars is: What is the significance of this crown of thorns? I, of course, am familiar with the crown of thorns in the bible, but is the Pope implying that Jefferson Davis was cruicified? Comments please
