A Alabamian born in 1813 might have served in a militia command during the Indian uprising of 1836; he's a little advanced in years to have volunteered during the WBTS. Assuming that "our" war is the right one in this case, comrade Homer Jones should be able to offer a good suggestion for Dale County.

With this man's age in mind, it's quite possible that the company you asked about is one of many home guard/county reserve units that existed in that part of the state. There are several sources to document armed conflicts between home guards and bands of "tories" along the Florida line (1864-65), but I haven't studied them.

One other possibiliy. Second company "K" of the 25th Alabama was from the Dale County area (Pike-Coffee) and was called "Little George Mathews Friends". Just a thought. First company "K" was Rabby's "Coast Guard No. 1".
