Mf. 1170 -- David Hubbard Papers, 1807-1871. 240 items. TSLA. 1 reel. 16 mm.
Collection based on David Hubbard (1792-1874), War of 1812 officer, land speculator, Alabama state legislator and Confederate congressman and Indian Affairs Commissioner. Hubbard's incoming correspondence makes up the largest part of the collection, including letters from John C. Calhoun, James K. Polk, D. H. Lewis and Henry Wise. Many of the letters from the 1830s through the 1850s contain high-level discussions of national, as well as Tennessee and Alabama politics, especially the impending crisis over slavery. Register available, including name indices to personal and political correspondence.
