Torches & lanterns.....
Tue May 1 10:38:31 2001

I'm not as familiar as I should be on positions at Franklin, but you can't be too far off. As for torches and lanterns, I'd bet these were ditched before their column deployed in LOB within range of Federal artillery. Memory says that Johnson's Division arrrived late in the day and went in to the left of the Columbia Pike. I believe either Brantley's or Sharp's Brigade reported names of members who actually penetrated the Federal defenses.

Other than the two sources mentioned, I use the NARA microfilm for the 22nd Alabama, available at the Birmingham Public Library, and any supplementary information at the ADAH in Montgomery from the muster rolls, historical file and correspondence file. Of course all of this is available to the public.
