Michael: I have been researching my ancestor Anna Riche who married Wm R Kirkland 1846, Marshall County,Al...She had a brother Asap Riche who was married to a daughter of Rev. James Monroe Sutton and his wife Polly Kirkland Sutton..this making him bro in laws to: Richard Hardcastle,Silas Fletcher, James Bloom Sutton, etc. (As most of my Kirkland,Derrick,Kennamer,Perkins ancestors were Confederate) I am shocked to find that Asap Riche would join with cousin Capt. John B Kennemer's Union Scouts and Guides... more upset that he was captured on Ryan's Farm near Columbus City and Hung...With two of his brothers both CSA..Thaddeus and the other Matthew V Riche..CSA who was soon killed and thrown into a creek on Paint Rock River by ole Ben Harris...son after the Buck Island Massacre... I know Susannah Kirkland married Jerimiah Roden about 1798 in SC and sonn came to Al...making them the ancestors of the Buck Island Rodens... I cannot understand for a minute why ASAP FRANKLIN RICHE..would join with Capt. Kennamer's Union bunch... My Anna Riche Kirkland is buried beside her husband Wm R Kirkland at the Old Union Cemetery in Grant, along beside many of our Fletcher,Sutton,Kirkland, Fulks kinfolks... Why did Hardcastle,Sutton and Fletcher all go to TX about 1897..??? (Everybody seems to have left here and go to TX...I am a descendant of David Alfred Derrick and his wife Melvina Perkins..(whose brothers all served proudly against the Yankees..even the homemade cousins... My grandmother Martha JANE Kirkland married James David Fulks and they are buried by Uncle Bent Fletcher at Old Union.
