Your message sounded as if you might be interested in knowing more about your ancestor's unit rather than strictly inquiring about his name appearing on a roster. That's really a good approach if you want to know what he and his fellow soldiers did during the war. A history of the 30th Alabama appeared in the 'Alabama Review', and if your library doesn't have it, the part of the issue containing the regimental history may be requested by interlibrary loan. Here's the citation from Dr. Jones' regimental bibliography:

Kelly, William Milner. "A history of the Thirtieth Alabama Volunteers (infantry) Confederate States Army," in Alabama Historical Quarterly, IX (1947), 115-189 [Originally, a Master's thesis, University of Alabama, 1927]

There will probably be a charge involved, but I suspect it's no more than you would pay for a couple of hamburgers at Wendy's.

The flag of the 30th Alabama which was surrendered at Vicksburg may be viewed at the ADAH website

These rferences came from Dr. Jones' webpage on the brigade in which the 30th Alabama served:

A brief search turned up at least one other individual who is interested in the "Sallie Walker Boys". Here's that email address:

And I have a few notes to describe the company organization dates, places and captains:

Company “B” of Calhoun County “Sallie Walker Boys”

John C. Francis. Appointed Major August [3,] 1863, to rank from July 15, 1863.
Joseph Harrison McCain. Promoted Captain August [3,] 1863, to rank from July 15, 1863. Wounded and captured at Nashville, Tennessee, December 16, 1864. Released at Fort Delaware, Delaware, June 17, 1865.

Enlisted at Jacksonville, Alabama, March 5, 1862, and accepted in Confederate service the following day. Company muster roll dated March 29, 1862, Camp Curry near Talladega, Alabama. Members surrendered with the consolidated 20th Alabama Infantry Regiment.
