Millard Mayo- 1st FL Inf. CO"H"
Thu Apr 26 21:41:02 2001

My ggrandfather, Millard Brown Mayo, entered the 1st
Florida Infantry , CO "H" at Brewton, as sergeant in
1862. The 1st Florida was organized at Brewton by Henry
Holcombe Malone, a young man (born in 1837), just out of
a New York Medical School. He served as Captain for 1 year
and then resigned due to an illness that kept him bedridden
for 18 months. Sergeant Millard Brown Mayo stayed in the military until 1864, and according to The 1907 Census of
Confederate Soldiers in Escambia Pensions Files, was at
home sick when the war ended. I do not know the name of his
wife, altho I have been told her name was Lucinda Lantern.
Millard was born, 7 miles east of Brewton on April 22,1836.
Would appreciate any info on him or his wife. I have been told he died in Covington County in 1922. There was a
Theophilus Lantern that owned land in Covington County,
and could have possibly been Millard's father-in-law. I
would like to know where Millard is buried.
