According to McMorries' book, of which an excerpt is posted at http://www.civilwarancestor.com/STORE/files/Ebook0068.htm the Perote Guards were organized at Perote, Bullock County (it was Pike County at the time) in 1859, composed mostly of students from the Perote Institute and of young businessmen of the town. The company left town on 12 Feb 1861 and was next day mustered into the service of Alabama at Girard. It was organized as a company of the 1st AL Regiment at Barrancas, FL, about a month later. And, the regiment was transferred to Confederate service about 1 April 61. Engagements can be found by reading through the book, or they are listed, conveniently, in Stewart Sifakis' _Compendium of the Confederate Armies - Alabama_ for each regiment.
