Check Pension Applications Files
Wed Apr 25 22:13:25 2001

Have you checked the Confederate Pension Applications Files at the ADA&H in Montgomery? If his wife applied for a pension her name will be on it and since you have that info from census records, you can make a match. The Veteran's place of residence and where he died are generally on the application as well. Sometimes Veterans applied for Pensions themselves.

Also, don't discount a Company raised in Mobile. My gg-granduncle enlisted in a local Company in Autauga County that became part of a State Volunteer Militia...trained at Camp Shorter near Auburn and wound up enlisting at Ft. Gaines near Mobile in a Wilcox County degsignated Company of the 38th AL. Follow all leads!
