Have you seen a copy of the 1985 Booklet entitled
"The Yankee Invasion of West ALabama" including The Battles of Trion, Tuscaloosa (and the Burning of the University), and Romulus" by Hoole and McArthur. I recently found a copy in the ALabama Room at the Univ. of West Alabama.
It contains a detailed review of the battle being discussed in your Post.
