One of my ancestors-James F. Watson- served with Co. D, 25th Alabama Infantry. This unit was raised in Ashville, St. Clair Co., Alabama in the summer of '61. A regimental return reveals that he died in hospital at Gainesville, Alabama before 1864. Probably October of 1862. He had been wounded. There is a Confederate cemetery at Gainesville containing 100+ graves. I believe he is buried in one of these unmarked graves. Does anyone have any information about the hospital or cemetery at Gainesville ? Responses are appreciated.
