My great great grandfather, James K. Shirley, was a Pvt. in Co. E. of the 3rd. Battn. Ala. Inf. also known as Hilliard's legion. This unit was later consolidated and became the 60th. Ala. Inf.

He fought in the battles of Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Perryville, Cumberland Gap, and The siege of Petersburg.

James survived the war and lived until 1929.
