Colorbearers by Company (Broadfoot)
Fri Apr 20 13:41:16 2001
I've just done a search of the Broadfoot Roster of Confederate Soldiers which I have recompiled in a MS Access Database. I searched for col. cpl., col. sgt., color, color-bearer, flag, flag-bearer, ens., ensign and included variables so I would get just about every possible variation. The result totaled 455 matches and I've broken down these listings by company. "Co. C" does have the largest total of any of the companies; however, I don't know if we can reach any specific conclusions from these numbers.
BTW, I noticed the rank of "Guidon" which is not included in these numbers was always used for artillery units.
Co. A = 59
Co. B = 37
Co. C = 69
Co. D = 48
Co. E = 43
Co. F = 36
Co. G = 37
Co. H = 46
Co. I = 37
Co. K = 38
Co. L = 2
Co. M = 2
and there was one Co. 2 from the 79th LA Militia
Guidon
